I have a theory about how enjoyable a visit to a new country is going to be. It depends upon what the person who stamps your passport at the airport says upon your arrival. Twice, once at Cape Town and the other at Windhoek (Namibia) the official has said, "We do hope you will enjoy your stay in our glorious country" or words to that effect. And now it has happened again upon arrival in Botswana!

What a country this is. More than a fifth of the total landscape is devoted to animal reserves which stretch for thousands of miles. The Okovanga Delta, the largest inland delta in the world is a haven of wildlife including Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Hippopotamus, Rhino and thousands of Elephants. The rains of Angola hurtle down the Okovanga River and form dozens of fingers creating the delta which reaches the Kalahari Desert and then evaporates. Adjacent to the delta is the huge Chobe reserve which is home to virtually every Southern African animal and bird species including more than 20,000 elephants. The people here are proud of their beautiful country and its political stability. The pity is that one sees so few of them as you can spend all day with the animals without seeing a soul. Perfect. There are few roads so lodges are connected by little aeroplanes, some with as few as four seats. All the photos are either in the Okovanga Delta or Chobe.
