Cottisford, St Mary

Small Early English church with nave, chancel and South porch. This beautiful little village and its church provided the inspiration for Flora Thompson in her historic trilogy, 'Larkrise to Candleford' The lancets in the north wall of the nave and chancel and the East window, with intersecting tracery are of the 13th century. Charles Buckeridge restored the church in 1861 and inserted tracery in the square headed windows of the South wall. The South porch is the original Early English. Off the beaten track but worth seeking out.
